The good thing about the motion picture business today is that anybody can make a movie. And the bad thing about the motion picture business today is that anybody can make a movie. Movies may be an art, but they are also a business. Unfortunately, many aspiring filmmakers do not recognize that fact and, as a result, more often than not, the movies they make never find an audience, never get a release and the money spent making them is lost forever.

There is no guarantee of success in the picture business, but there are certain basic steps one can take in the planning stages of your film that can certainly give you better odds that your film will find that audience, recoup your investment and if lady luck smiles, even make a profit. Michael B, Druxman, our Guest Speaker on Wednesday November 13, will discuss some of the common mistakes made by young filmmakers and make suggestions on how they might be avoided. He will also be offering copies of his new book, Life, Liberty & The Pursuit of Hollywood: More of My Wacky Adventures in Tinseltown.

Michael B. Druxman is a veteran Hollywood screenwriter whose credits include Cheyenne Warrior with Kelly Preston; Dillinger and Capone starring Martin Sheen and F. Murray Abraham; and The Doorway with Roy Scheider, which he also directed. He is also a prolific playwright, and the author of twelve published books, including several nonfiction works about Hollywood, its movies, and the people who make them (e.g., Basil Rathbone: His Life and His Films, Make It Again, Sam: A Survey of Movie Remakes, One Good Film Deserves Another: A Survey of Movie Sequels, Merv (Griffin) and The Musical: From Broadway to Hollywood). He has written two novels, Nobody Drowns in Mineral Lake and Shadow Watcher, plus Family Secret, a non-fiction book co-authored with Warren Hull, which reveals the true facts behind the 1947 murder of mobster “Bugsy” Siegel in Beverly Hills.

An acknowledged Hollywood historian, a writer of television documentaries and a former Hollywood publicist for 35 years, Michael also taught various dramatic writing and film appreciation courses. So join us Wednesday Nov 13 at Baby A’s and tap into Michael’s knowledge and experience.
