Panel of Casting Directors

Casting Directors, part 1

The question actors often ask is, “Where’s the work?” The answer is: via Casting Directors! These hard-working decision makers determine who gets invited to audition for a role. Actors need to know more about what casting directors do, how they think, what they look for, what their responsibilities are, and what they expect from actors.

The Network Austin Mixer will be offering that information and more at our next 2 mixers in April & May when we’ll feature panels of casting directors at both mixers. Actors are invited to bring 4 headshots & resumes (stapled together, back-to-back, 1 set per company) to each panel for submission to the casting directors.

We will start the program with a brief introduction by each casting director, telling the audience about themselves, their experience, and their companies. Then we’ll open the floor to the audience for a Q&A session. Please keep your questions succinct so that as many can be answered as possible.

Casting Directors Panel on Wednesday, April 13th:

☆    Brad Burton, CSA & Kimberly Burton, CSA, Burton Casting

☆    Diana Guthrie, CSA, Diana Guthrie Casting

☆    Rachel Flanagan, Rachel Flanagan Casting

☆    Donise L. Hardy, CSA, A Casting Place

Then at our May Mixer we’ll present a panel of 5 more outstanding casting directors representing another 4 casting companies. So, plan on joining us for both mixers, first in April and again in May. Arrive early for a cold libation, networking, and meeting new friends with like minds. Enjoy a fun-filled evening with other guests and get the info you need to know about these casting directors, what they do, what they are looking for, landing the roles, upcoming projects, and much more!

Jason Teresi, Director of Regional Services at Breakdown Services, Ltd.

Breakdown Services

Talent agencies, casting directors, and Breakdown Services are essential to getting booked for a role, and all actors (as well as others in the industry) need to know how these parts of the machinery work. To give us insights into these matters, we are proud to announce that our guest speaker on October 14th will be Jason Teresi, a man in our industry who knows these aspects well.

Jason TeresiJason was born and raised in Chicago. He attended DePaul Theatre School and Columbia College Theatre School. After graduating in 1995 Jason moved to Los Angeles. Wanting to work somewhere in the industry and avoid waiting tables he started working at Showfax, which was soon bought-out by Breakdown Services. He was employed by both companies for over 8 years which gave him a unique look at other aspects of the entertainment industry and a better working knowledge of how talent agents & casting directors operate. In 2006, Jason moved back to Chicago and became the Director of Regional Services for Breakdown Services, his current role.

So join us on Wednesday, October 14, arrive early for a “Happy Hour” cold margarita before 6, network and meet new folks with like minds, enjoy a fun-filled evening with other guests, and get insights about talent agencies, casting directors, and Breakdown Services from  Jason TeresiRSVP on Facebook or just show up!

Last Month…

We extend our deepest thanks to writer/director Cody Duckworth and producer Jonathan de la Luz for being our guest speakers on Wednesday, September 9, 2015! These men discussed many aspects of the making of their recently finished feature film “Harbinger”, and presented the trailer, which impressed everyone. Harbinger was filmed entirely in Texas with a Hispanic cast. The movie is in English and Spanish with subtitles, and is currently being submitted to world class film festivals around the world. Thank you for an excellent and informative presentation, Cody & Jonathan, and we hope to see the entire film soon… and see you and the team at the Oscars!

Read more about Cody Duckworth & Jonanthan de la Luz, more about “Harbinger” the film, and become a fan of “Harbinger” on Facebook.

We also wish to thank Alyne Harding, Director of the Austin 48 Hour Film Project, who gave us a few moments about the rousing success of this year’s event and exciting news about next year’s. Our city boasts one of a handful of 48-Hour Film Projects with enough entries to make it to the next tier coming up in October! Want to make a horror film?
