March 8, 2017 ~ NO March Mixer

Mixer Looking for a New Home

Due to SXSW we do not have a Mixer in March, but plan on joining us on Wednesday, April 12th. Where? We’re not sure yet. More on that, but first.…

Last Month

As promised, we started 2017 with a BANG — 2 bangs, actually! On Wednesday, January 11th we featured the first of two panels of talent agents at Baby A’s, and on Wednesday, February 8th, we held our second panel at Mister Tramps. We extend our deepest thanks to the talent agents for sharing their insights, wisdom, and support. Last month it was the respective owners of K Hall Agency, Condra/Artista, BLVD Talent, Agence Talent, and the managing partner of Acclaim Talent.

Now this Breaking News:

We were shocked to learn of Baby A’s sudden closing at the last minute, and were fortunate to have been able to hustle and hold last month’s mixer at Mister Tramps Sports Club & Café, whose owner & staff were so graciously accommodating.

We are on the hunt for a new haunt, and asking you to help. Tap into your inner location scout and tell us about other venues for our 2nd-Wednesday-of-the-month-mixers that may meet these criteria:

  • private room with 100+ people capacity
  • preferably a stage
  • ample parking
  • no charge
  • food & libations
  • not too far north, south, east, west

Any additional amenities would be wonderful, such as lighting, sound, and screen.

Since the Network Austin Mixer’s inception over 12 years ago, our mixers have had a history of bringing lucrative business to the venues where we’ve held them. So any club, restaurant, or other venue will benefit financially by guests enjoying food & drinks, just as Baby A’s did.

Please let us know about places you’ve personally visited that may fit the bill in a comment here and/or our group discussion.

The Network Austin Mixer has been and will continue to be a vibrant organization in Austin. Most of all, we are extremely grateful for our guest speakers who have so generously given their time and expertise over the years, as well as for all you who attend, because without your support, creativity, and passion, there would be no Network Austin Mixer.

Thank you, we will be in touch, and we look forward to seeing you somewhere for our next mixer in April!

Pass along our website and check it for details about each month’s speaker(s).

2nd Annual Talent Showcase

Thanks to ALL the Talent & Agents!

So much talent, so little time, so the show swiftly got under way.

This year’s Talent Showcase fell on Veterans‘ Day, so we began by honoring the veterans among the talent, agents, and in the audience, of which there were many. L. Renée Hall, a veteran herself, spoke a few beautiful words of gratitude, and Kenny Peters graced us with an especially heartfelt rendition of our United States of America’s National Anthem.

Before getting on with the show-after-the-show, the Network Austin Mixer would like to express appreciation for others who stepped up such as Brandi Brown who made timekeeping for the event fun, as well as L. Renée Hall who arrived extra early to set up tables and then some.

Where would all that talent be without representation? The night presented immense opportunity for top talent agents to see what our local talent is made of. Thanks so much to these guests for attending:
Jason Lee of Acclaim Talent Agency
Carleen Lucas of Tory Christopher Group
Romie Szal & David Brown of K Hall Agency
Laura Maxwell-Scott & Jessica Sloan of Collier Talent Agency
Liz Lyons Atherton & Jorge Elizondo of The Atherton Group-TAG Talent Agency

And thanks to our regular volunteers, Forrest Walls who collected & distributed headshots & resumés and Judith Ruder who emceed. Thank goodness, too, for our core members: Donise Hardy who plans every detail precisely & exquisitely and Gary Wimmer who deftly deals with audio amid a myriad of challenges, all the while warmly greeting guests.

Of course, what’s the use of performing if nobody’s watching? It wouldn’t be a showcase without our amazing, enthusiastic audience comprised of newbies and old-timers and everyone in between, and so many loaded with talent themselves. Thanks for coming, and do please come back on December 9th, when we get to meet the City of Austin’s new Film Commissioner, and then again the 2nd Wednesday in January, then February, skip March (SXSW), and then so on.

For those who missed the show or just wish to reminisce, here’s a taste of videos to whet your appetite, maybe more to come. So keep checking back here and on our Talent Showcase 2015 playlist and subscribe to our YouTube Channel to keep up! Beneath the videos take a stroll through our slideshows. Many thanks to Joe H. Lee of Studio J. Star, L. Renée Hall, Bill E. Mixon, and Myrna Hawkins for shooting these stills and moving footage so we wouldn’t have to rely on mere memory to re-experience the joy and excitement of that evening.

Now onto our after-show.… Enjoy!
