Many of our attendees are actors, so we will be inviting more highly-credited actors and acting coaches as our guest speakers, continuing with the amazing actor, author, acting teacher, and musician Marco Perella on Wednesday October 9th @ Opal Divine’s Austin Grill! Known well in our industry as a prolific working actor with credits spanning 3 decades, and highly admired and respected, Marco may be best known for his role playing an abusive alcoholic second husband, Professor Bill Welbrock, in Boyhood (2014), as well as for penning his bestselling book, Adventures of A No Name Actor (2001), a humorous autobiography recounting his struggles in the acting arena.

Marco studied at Stanford University, then worked as a construction worker, firefighter, and musician before auditioning for a role in West Side Story. He’s been working steadily in film and television, adding to his professionalism, popularity, and numerous credits, since the mid-1980s.

Marco lives in Onion Creek with his wife, Diane. Besides acting themselves, they offer on-camera acting classes and audition workshops here in Austin at Marco Perella’s Film Actor Workshop. Many actors hire Marco to video their auditions and benefit from his expertise at delivery, covering everything from comedy to intense drama.

The Veteran’s Teddy Bear Project kicks off at this month’s mixer, too, so if you have a stuffed lovie to donate, we’ll be collecting them this night!

Last Month

We want to extend our sincerest thanks to the panelists from Austin Film Festival (AFF) for guest speakering in September. The iconic annual Austin Film Festival & Conference known ’round the world transpires here in Austin later this month, and we are extremely grateful that the panel so clearly explained many aspects of AFF, the panels, the films, the screenwriting competition, volunteering, and more. So thanks to all of you!

The annual Austin Film Festival & Conference takes place October 24 – October 31, 2019. Use our special promo code for a $25 discount off any badge:

And don’t cook or go anywhere else for a meal or snacks because Opal’s offers a tasty and largely locally-sourced menu of goodies.

Beware both rush hour traffic and any current construction!

Dear Film, Game, Music and Entertainment People, Friends, Investors and Fans,

WHEN: WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 2014 – Networking starts 6 PM; PANEL BEGINS AT 6:45PM
WHERE: Baby Acapulco’s – 5610 North IH-35, Austin TX 78751

GUEST SPEAKERS: A second panel of Casting Directors!

The question actors often ask is, “Where’s the work?” For actors, the answer is: via Casting Directors. These hard-working folks are the decision makers about who gets invited in to audition for a role. Actors need to know more about what Casting Directors do, how they think, what they look for, what their responsibilities are and what they expect from actors.

The Network Austin Mixer will AGAIN be offering that information and more at our next Mixer on WEDNESDAY MAY 14 with another panel of Casting Directors. And we will again start the evening with an introduction from each Casting Director, about 5 minutes each, in which they will tell the audience about themselves, their experience and their companies. We will then open the floor to the audience for a Q&A session which will last approximately half an hour. Our panel will consist of:

Vicky Boone ~ Vicky Boone Casting
Rachel Flanagan ~ Rachel Flanagan Casting
Beth Sepko, CSA ~ Beth Sepko Casting
John Williams ~ The Cast Station

Folks, you do not want to miss this rare opportunity to get insights and the latest info these Casting Directors will share! Be there… if you want the inside scoop about what’s happening in casting now in this area!

On WEDNESDAY APRIL 9, 2014 we featured the first of two panels of Casting Directors, and we extend our deepest thanks to all of them for their insights, advice and professionalism. They answered numerous questions from our attendees, then spent more time talking individually to many folks. We were honored to have that panel, which consisted of:

Toni Cobb-Brock and Sally Allen ~ Brock/Allen Casting
Brad Burton, CSA, and Kim Burton, CSA ~ Burton Casting
Donise L. Hardy, CSA A Casting Place

Join us on WEDNESDAY MAY 14th at Baby A’s and remember: PLEASE CARPOOL! These will be very important Mixers, and we suggest folks arrive early to get a table. We expect a huge crowd at both, just as we had on April 9, so arrive early!

NOTICE: If Baby Acapulco’s parking is full, you may park at either the Capital Inn (just north of Baby A’s) for $5 or at Super 8 motel (just south of Baby A’s) for $8. That’s why we say ARRIVE EARLY AND PLEASE CARPOOL! Please pay the folks at the desk at either motel when you have to park there so your vehicle doesn’t get towed away.

Let friends interested in the media worlds know about the Mixers. We put them on to provide opportunities for you folks to network and get information about acting, films, TV, and media. See you at 6 pm at Baby A’s on WEDNESDAY MAY 14th!

See photos on Facebook, and tag yourself if you were there!
