December 8, 2021 ~ Barry Corbin

Barry Corbin

Barry Corbin

We’re hosting our 2nd Virtual Monthly Mixer featuring Guest Speaker Barry Corbin on Wednesday, December 8, 2021!

Barry on Horseback

A classically trained Shakespearean actor, Barry’s screen career was preceded by 20 years on a live stage in theater. He’s since become one of the most iconic character actors of the next 40 years, most recently making a guest appearance on the critically acclaimed hit television series Yellowstone on Paramount Plus. His recurring role as “Dale” in the Netflix series, The Ranch, that ended last year starring Sam Elliott & Ashton Kutcher, reunited him with Debra Winger from Urban Cowboy in which he made his film debut as “Uncle Bob” in 1979. Throughout the 80s to this day, he went on to perform in over 200 projects including War Games, Lonesome Dove, No Country for Old Men, Northern Exposure, The Closer, Modern Family, and the current Lone Star 911 filmed in Texas.

Barry’s fans from around the world love him just as much for his off-screen authenticity as they do his work on-screen. Come catch up with him with us and bring any questions for him to answer on Wednesday the 8th!

Zoom Room

Events in cyberspace come across differently from in-person get-togethers. So with that in mind, please:

  • Arrive with your name (not a random handle) and either live on camera or with your profile photo (not a random avatar) to be let in the “door” from the “waiting room” to assure others present that you’re likely a “real person”.
  • Avoid over-talking one another when more than one attendee is on the mic, and mute your mic unless it’s your turn to talk.
  • Don’t misbehave! While there’ll be some time before and after for mixing & networking among ourselves, the panel program will be recorded for posterity.
  • Use the chat feature for your questions. Post your questions for the host to the host, and your questions for the guest speakers to “everyone” ahead of time to help us know who’s up next and plans to ask what of which speaker or all of them during the Q & A.

Hosted by Tootie Hall and co-hosted by Barry Rogers & Judith Ruder, the Zoom Room will be open between 6:30-8:30PM, beginning with any announcements and getting situated. Then the program starts at 7PM.

Here’s where to virtually attend our NAMixer on Wednesday the 8th:

Last Month

Our first time back in 20 months, the Network Austin Mixer was pleased to present a Stunt Panel with speakers that kept attendees enthralled throughout the evening with tales of action and adventure, safety on the set, and so much more wisdom garnered from their collective decades in the biz. We’re so grateful to the panel of professionals who graced our virtual stage: Steve Wolf, Christian Stokes, Benjamin N. Reddic II, Marc Anthony Baca

January 8, 2020 ~ Talent Agents & Open Mic

Talent Agent(s) + Open Mic

Talent Agent(s) + Open Mic

Welcome to 2020, a new year, a new decade, and a new January #NAMixer!

Along with our usual Annual Talent Agent Panel, we may feature an Open Mic, at which you’ll get to stand in front of our audience to pitch yourself.

We’re ever so pleased to announce that at least one prolific talent agent will be on our stage to speak and answer audience questions. Jason Wasner of Acclaim Talent has worked hard & smart to assemble a roster of actors who consistently get cast in paid roles, and he’ll be present to tell others what it takes.

Instructions for Headshots & Résumés: Anyone not currently represented is encouraged to bring at least 1 set of headshot & résumé stapled back-to-back for placement at a designated table upon arrival, preferably prior to the beginning of the program, so that any agents in attendance can have your submission package to review when they leave.

For the second part of our program we’ll facilitate an Open Mic for anyone in our audience.

  • Are you part of a festival award-winning project coming up for viewing in town or online?
  • Are you filming something exciting for which you’re seeking cast, crew, equipment?
  • Do you provide a product or service for our local entertainment industry?
  • Do you have a unique talent or skill you want others to know about?
  • Are you an actor with a special skill set?

Sign up upon arrival for the spots available, and take up to 90 seconds — that’s a whole 1½ minutes — to say whatever you like, so long as it’s clean and on topic. You’ll be in a roomful of local industry people who may need what you’ve got. Jobs are born here.

This year’s Veteran’s Teddy Bear Project ends next month when teddies will be handed to veterans and others, so if you have a soft lovie to donate, we’ll be collecting them this night.

If you bring a stuffed plushie then you get first dibs at the mic!

So, plan on coming to Opal Divine’s Austin Grill on Wednesday, January 8th, and invite your friends. Look forward to wisdom & networking among an amazing array of local movers & shakers, and benefit by opportunities to mix & mingle with others in our industry.

Last Month

Our audience and we so fervently appreciate the courage it took our line up of performers to brave our stage in showcasing their talents. It was an eclectic show with acting, music, and comedy, followed by rave reviews.

We’re also supremely grateful to the generous talent scouts in attendance, including many who stayed after the show for the performers: Jason Wasner of Acclaim Talent, Brenda Ambrize of Brenda Ambrize Production Services, Claudia Ramon of Condra Artista, Jessica Hovind of Variant Talent, Lilly Bankston of Bankston Talent Agency, and Donise L. Hardy, CSA of A Casting Place. The synergy of your presence plus audience applause added to performers’ hopes that their dreams were worth pursuing.

See photos here, and more mixer photos here, and subscribe to our YouTube Channel for past and soon-to-be uploaded video.

Come on the 8th and bring a friend to network and enjoy the show. While there enjoy Opal Divine’s Happy Hour which lasts until 7, then $3 “Three for Texas” beers the rest of the evening. And don’t cook or go anywhere else for a meal or snacks because Opal’s offers a tasty and largely locally-sourced menu of goodies.

Beware both rush hour traffic and any current construction!
