July 2 & 3 Frontier Fourth with Dean Reading & Co

Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farms is presenting a celebration for America’s Independence a few days early. On July 2nd & 3rd from 9am to 2pm (to beat the heat) the historic site will feature Old West gunfights, a magic show, several demonstrations of life in the early days of our country, a real cannon manned by cannoneer Leo Bush, and some celebrities. Come dressed in an old west costume or as you are, but do come!

Among the Frontier Festivities to be featured at A Frontier Fourth is a Wild West reenactors and Q&A by cowboy stars Dean Reading, Tommy Worrell, and Gary Clarke, actors, authors, filmmakers, and more.

Yes, western TV and film star Gary Clarke (Steve on THE VIRGINIAN TV series) will be on hand with photos, his book, “How It Happened” and more. In addition, Tommy Worrell (John Wayne’s THE ALAMO) will be there along with a few other celebrities. The question and answer session will be held between 19th Century Magic Shows with Gary on his life in the entertainment field.

Thomas Worrell

Tommy Worrell started his film career as one of Bowie’s men in John Wayne’s monumental classic film THE ALAMO. Tommy was a stuntman, renowned gun twirler, and had his own Wild West show featuring his trained Longhorn steer. As an actor Tommy also appeared in HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL with Richard Boone, JERICHO with Buck Taylor and Leon Coffey, and as a regular on the popular daytime show GENERAL HOSPITAL. Other credits include THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE starring Gene Hackman, Shelly Winters, and Ernest Borgnine.

Dean Reading (pronounced RED-ing) is an actor, writer, director, producer raised on Texas ranches in Fort Bend and Cherokee counties. Competing in high school, college, and professional rodeos, Dean ended up in California where he did stunt work in films. Later returning to Texas, he wrote, directed, and appeared in several syndicated TV series including TEXAS TRADITIONS and SIX SHOOTER JUNCTION.  He directed a low budget feature film THE WIND FAVORS WEST, and has appeared as an actor in the TV series DALLAS, THE YOUNG RIDERS, WALKER TEXAS RANGER, and THE SON.

Gary Clarke is an actor, writer, director. Born in Los Angeles, Gary’s first film role was the lead in DRAGSTRIP RIOT. He is certainly no stranger to westerns. Make the evening even more fun & productive by arriving early and/or staying late for all the networking where projects and jobs are born and furthered to fruition.

So bring your popcorn – or don’t since Opal Divine’s got great snacks and other food & drinks – and a bunch of friends to settle in and feast your eyes & ears and challenge your mind with our local community’s creative content on screen on March 11th @ Opal Divine’s Austin Grill!

Last Month

Our February NAMixer featured a stellar panel of casting directors – those who audition actors and are able to move them forward to the filmmakers. These guest speakers are kept quite busy with our bustling local industry, so in sincere gratitude we thank Brenda Ambrize of Ambrize Production Services, Vicky Boone of Vicky Boone Casting, Michael Druck of Michael Druck Casting, and our very own Donise L. Hardy, CSA of A Casting Place!

See photos here, and more mixer photos here.

Come on the 11th and bring a friend to network and enjoy the show. While there enjoy Opal Divine’s Happy Hour which lasts until 7, then $3 “Three for Texas” beers the rest of the evening. And don’t cook or go anywhere else for a meal or snacks because Opal’s offers a tasty and largely locally-sourced menu of goodies.
